Dr. John Wright
Dr. John Wright graduated from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1977. His internship and ophthalmology residency at Tulsa Regional Medical Center were completed in 1982. He was board certified in ophthalmology in 1986.
Always dedicated to staying on the leading edge of ophthalmology, Dr. Wright was the first to perform laser vision correction in Colorado. He was also first in Colorado to:
•First surgeon in Colorado to perform the Visian implantable contact lens procedure
• Implant the multifocal ReSTOR lens used in lens replacement surgery
• Use the Excimer Laser
Dr. Wright was the first surgeon in Colorado Springs to:
• Perform lasik
• Perform small incision cataract surgery (1982)
• Perform Radial Keratotomy (RK - 1984)
• Implant a foldable intraocular lens (1987)
• Perform the no-stitch cataract surgery technique
• Insert the first multifocal intraocular lens in Southern Colorado (1988)
Devoted to bringing the best in the world to Colorado, he traveled to the USSR in 1985 to study with Professor Fyodorov, the primary developer of RK. In 1989, Dr. Wright studied the Excimer laser in Berlin with Theo Seiler, MD. Dr. Seiler is credited in being the first surgeon in the world to reshape a human cornea with the Excimer laser. Dr. Wright has also traveled to Bogota and the Dominican Republic to study LASIK and participate with humanitarian programs.
In 1991 he was chosen by Summit Technologies as one of 10 surgeons throughout the country to perform the clinical trials by which the Excimer laser was approved in 1995. In the state of Colorado, Dr. Wright has proctored over 50 surgeons in the use of the Excimer laser following its FDA approval. In 1998 and 1999, Dr. Wright was ranked in the top 1% of VISX trained and certified surgeons in the nation based on his experience. In 2001, Dr. Wright gained certification from the American Board of Eye Surgery in LASIK and Cataract surgery, and is now an acting member of the board.
A regular participant in the Mission Cataract USA program, in 1995 Dr. Wright received notable recognition for his participation in humanitarian projects locally and abroad.
He has given many presentations at nation ophthalmology conferences, including the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the American College of Eye Surgeons.

Dr.
Brant Gehler
Dr.
Brant Gehler has been with The Wright Eye Center since 1989. He received
a Bachelor of Arts at The University of Minnesota in 1981. In 1989 he
received his Doctor of Optometry. Dr. Gehler has extensive knowledge
of pre and post-operative management of refractive surgery patients
and has worked closely with Dr. Wright for many years. He was one of
the first optometrists in the United States to have first hand experience
in treating laser patients and was one of the first to attend a certifying
course for the Excimer laser sponsored by Summit Technology. Dr. Gehler
is also a VIP - visually improved patient of The Wright Eye Center,
having had LASIK in October of 2001.

Timothy Reese
Dr.
Reese received his Bachelor in Visual Science and Doctor of Optometry
at the Southern California College of Optometry. He performed his internship
at the Brentwood VA hospital in Los Angeles and at the Phoenix Indian
Hospital. His professional experience includes five years on active
duty at a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Public Health Service providing
eye care services for seven Indian Reservations in northern and western
Arizona. During his service he was awarded the USPHS Isolated Hardship
Service Ribbon and the USPHS Commendation Medal. He has been managing
refractive surgery and LASIK patients since moving to Colorado. Dr.
Reese is certified with the Colorado State Board and has extensive experience
in the medical treatment of ocular diseases.
